Funky Ouma was started by a dynamic mom and daughter duo. Anneke van Rooyen and Johannita Eksteen, on their farm outside Paarl, South Africa.The idea was born many years ago when Anneke’s husband was ill with cancer, and they removed all preservatives and colourants from his diet. They played around with salt and natural flavours and saw a gap in the market for healthy cooking and braai-salt mixtures. Funky Ouma was established in 2012 and named after Anneke, who despite being mother of four and grandmother of 10, remains funky, with-it and totally involved with her family and business.
From salts to spices olive oils and garnishes, Funky Ouma’s products are beautifully crafted, inside and out. The ingreduients are all natural, and contain no MSG, gluten, preservatives, sugar, or colorants. They’re also vegan friendly and packed by hand in South Africa. As if the insides weren’t gift-worthy enough, artfully designed labels adorn Funky Ouma’s elegant tins, classic glass grinders and other beautifully packaged gourmet products. Each one is a gift in itself and as a set, make a stunning presentation.
